Semarang - The 10th Imbasadi Nusantara Workshop was successfully held at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) from 30 May to 1 June 2023. This prestigious activity carries the theme Pusparagam Tradition of the Archipelago, which reflects the diversity of traditions and culture in Indonesia by emphasizing efforts to preserve cultural wealth and these traditions. The event which lasted for three days was closed with the selection of the Sons and Daughters of Imbasadi 2023 and the Awarding Night as the highlight on May 31, 2023.

The 10th Imbasadi Nusantara Workshop which was held at UNNES in 2023 presented six kinds of competitions, including the National Scientific Writing Contest, National Typography Contest, Regional Pop Song Contest, Cultural Poster Contest, Cultural Documentary Video Contest, and Imbasadi 2023 Son and Daughter Selection Competition.

The Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture Delegation from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) also participated in this activity by participating in all competitions. The UGM delegation consists of Idharul Huda (class of 2021) as the head of the delegation, Adjit Royan Mustafa Ganda Sukma (class of 2021), Nurma Aisyah (class of 2021), Nanda Nursa Alya (class of 2021), Bima Muslih Wicaksono (class of 2022), Haryo Untoro (class of 2022), Kintan Dewinta Putri (class of 2022), and Muhammad Siswoyo (class of 2022) participated in the event which was held in Semarang.

The UGM delegation won brilliant achievements in several competitions, including:

  • 2nd place in the Cultural Documentary Video Competition (Bima Muslih Wicaksono as chairman, and two members namely Adjit Royan Mustafa Ganda Sukma and Idharul Huda)
  • Runner-up 1 Putri IMBASADI 2022 (Kintan Dewinta Putri)
  • Runner-up 2 Putra IMBASADI 2022 (Bima Muslih Wicaksono)

(Cultural Video Documentary Championship Acceptance)

(Reception of 1st Runner-Up of the Putra Putri IMBASADI Championship)

(Reception of 2nd Runner-Up of the Putra Putri IMBASADI Championship)

The Cultural Documentary Video Competition which won the prize raised the theme of the tradition of carving leather puppets. Carving wayang is the process of sculpting certain wayang objects. The tradition of carving wayang has been passed down from generation to generation until today. However, the number of puppet masters is decreasing day by day, so a Cultural Documentary Video is made as a medium to document and introduce the tradition of carving wayang to the public, especially to the younger generation.

Furthermore, the championships that were won were Runner-up 2 Putra IMBASADI and Runner-up 1 Putri IMBASADI. The rigorous selection process started with deep interviews and stage-by-stage selection, starting from the top 5 to the top 3. All participants went through the process well and with confidence. Kintan Dewinta Putri is partnered with Ketut Teguh Virgiawan from the Ganesha University of Education delegation, while Bima Muslih Wicaksono is paired with Luh Putu Dian Tristyanti who is also a delegate from the Ganesha University of Education.

In an interview with one of the delegates, Kintan Dewinta Putri stated “I feel proud to be able to participate in the 10th Nusantara IMBASADI Workshop. I am also happy because I have the opportunity to add insight into regional culture and literature and make friends from various universities in Indonesia.”

With events such as the Imbasadi Nusantara Workshop, it is hoped that more and more students will be interested in studying, appreciating, and preserving the rich culture and traditions in Indonesia.

Thank you to all parties who have participated in the success of this event, including the organizers, participants, and other supporters. We hope that IMBASADI can always accommodate students majoring in regional literature throughout Indonesia in exploring, developing, and preserving Indonesian culture.

Indonesia is diverse, and IMBASADI unites

Students of Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture Study Program had the Opportunity to Follow the Tradition of Ngisis Wayang in Kasunanan Surakarta in the Field Lecture Period

College StudentNewsSDGSStudentStudent's ActivityStudent's Work Wednesday, 20 September 2023

Surakarta, (18/05/2023) – Coinciding with a national holiday, the Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture Study Program at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) held a field lecture to the Surakarta Hadiningrat Sunanate. This activity was attended by students taking Wayang Literature courses, who were accompanied by supervisors, namely Rudy Wiratama, S.I.P., M.A., and R. Bima Slamet Raharja, S.S., M.Hum.

Kasunanan Surakarta Hadiningrat at that time was holding the ritual of ngesis wayang, which means 'to dry or air the wayang'. This ritual of singing puppets is carried out in the Kyai Pramukanya puppet box which has existed since the reign of Sinuhun Paku Buwana (PB) II in the capital city of "nagari", Kartasura (1727-1745). Kiai Pramuka's puppet box is staged every Thursday because the puppet is a padintenan puppet or wayang that can be used in daily life.

Through Kori Kamandungan, field lecture participants entered the palace area. Before entering the core area of the palace, participants are required to wear Javanese clothing typical of Surakarta. In the Sasana Handrawina building, the tradition of puppet theater is held.

In its implementation, K.R.T Dr. Bambang Suwarno, a courtier and full-time lecturer from ISI Surakarta, also played a role in giving explanations to the participants. The participants were also allowed to observe and be actively involved in carrying out the ngesis tradition.

After participating in the ngesis tradition, the field lecture participants and supervisors had the opportunity to take a photo with Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Windansari, who is familiarly called Gusti Moeng.

(The field study participants and supervisors had the opportunity to take a group photo with Gusti Moeng)

Furthermore, the field lecture participants witnessed the process of putting the puppets into the puppet box of their Kiai Pramuka, and then the puppet box together with the abdi dalem was stored again.

With the existence of this field lecture activity, it is expected that the participants of the Puppet Literature course will be able to learn about cultural events, especially the puppet ngisis tradition in Kasunanan Surakarta Hadiningrat. In addition, participants can also understand the diversity of forms, characters, and narrative relationships in the form of wayang kulit, as well as awaken students' love for Indonesian art and culture.
