Yogyakarta (19/05/2023) - Javanese Language, Literature and Culture Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a syawalan event with a full feel of togetherness. This event was held as a mix and took place in the hall of the Margono building, 4th floor. The event, which was attended by lecturers, students, and female students from the 2019-2022 class, was an event to strengthen friendship ties.

Syawalan, which refers to the month of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar, is an important moment for Muslims to commemorate the end of the holy month of Ramadan. At this syawalan event, the main activity carried out is the syawalan pledge, in which each individual apologizes for the mistakes that have been made.

The syawalan event which was held by the UGM Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture Study Program was opened by Hafid and Asta, class 2021 students who also act as Master of Ceremony (MC). The syawalan event is carried out using the Javanese language at various levels of krama speech, as a form of seriousness and respect for one another.

The Syawalan Pledge began with student representatives from class 2022-2019, who sincerely expressed their apologies and determination to improve themselves in the future. Then, dr. Daru Winarti, M.Hum., as head of the Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture Study Program, gave a speech and participated in the syawalan pledge.

The event continued with the Syawalan pledge by lecturer representatives represented by Rudy Wiratama, S.I.P., M.A., who in the following event also gave lectures about the nature and history of Syawalan as a tradition held after the month of Ramadan. The tausiah is then closed by reading a prayer for the good and safety of all.

The syawalan activity ended with a handshake activity between all the attendees. This moment is an opportunity for each individual to apologize and forgive each other, creating an atmosphere full of warmth and brotherhood.

This syawalan event is not only a celebration of togetherness, but also an important moment to foster a spirit of brotherhood and strengthen a sense of solidarity between lecturers and students as one big family of the Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture Study Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada.
