Yogyakarta - The Javanese Literature Program at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) secured three championships at the Temu Budaya Nusantara 2022 event, which was conducted virtually by the Batak Literature Program at the University of North Sumatra (USU) from December 15 to 20, 2022.
The Temu Budaya Nusantara 2022 event carried the theme "Local Culture Actualization and the Role of Youth," emphasizing the role of young generations in preserving and perpetuating culture and traditions amid the current wave of globalization.
During the Temu Budaya Nusantara 2022 event at USU, eight different competitions were organized, including National Traditional Dance Competition, National Scientific Paper Competition, Comic Strip Competition, Poetry Creation and Reading Competition, Cultural Documentary Competition, National TikTok Competition, National Essay Competition, and Podcast Competition.
The Javanese Literature Program at UGM sent a delegation consisting of Vighna Rivattyannur Hernawan (class of 2020) as the delegation leader, Nurma Aisyah (class of 2021), Bima Muslih Wicaksono (class of 2022), Nanda Fitri Riyantika (class of 2022), Muhammad Siswoyo (class of 2022), and Wening Hidayati (class of 2022).
The following are the three championships achieved by the Javanese Literature Program at UGM:
- 1st Place in the National Scientific Paper Competition Vighna Rivattyannur Hernawan as the team leader and Nurma Aisyah as a member of the delegation secured the 1st place title in the National Scientific Paper Competition. Their scientific paper was titled "Baita Adi: Actualizing Nusantara Culture Through the Transformation of Text into Batik as a Shield Against the Massiveness of Global Developments (A Cultural Study)." This scientific paper emphasized the Baita Adi batik as the material object, where the motifs of the batik are derived from the transformation of the Sestra Ageng Adidarma text. It explored the perspective, role, and challenges of Baita Adi Batik in the context of global development.
- 2nd Place in the Cultural Documentary Competition Bima Muslih Wicaksono achieved the 2nd place title in the Cultural Documentary Competition. His cultural documentary video focused on the traditional art of batik tulis, a process in which motifs are hand-drawn onto fabric using wax. Through the hands of skilled artisans, this intricate and philosophically rich form of batik continues to thrive amidst the mass production of machine-made batik.
- 2nd Place in the National Essay Competition Muhammad Siswoyo earned the 2nd place title in the National Essay Competition with his essay titled "Karsa IMBASADI: Creation and Cultural Innovation as Efforts to Preserve Cross-Generational Traditional Values in the Modernization Era." This essay discussed the role of Imbasadi alumni in introducing various innovations to preserve traditional values in the era of modernization.
The success of the Javanese Literature Program at UGM in achieving these accolades reflects the commitment of its students to appreciate and preserve Indonesia's rich cultural heritage and traditions. Furthermore, their participation in the Temu Budaya Nusantara Imbasadi 2022 event is expected to motivate more students to study, appreciate, and preserve Indonesia's diverse culture.
We extend our gratitude to all parties who contributed to the success of this event, including the organizing committee, participants, and other supporters. May IMBASADI continue to be a platform that provides valuable experiences, expands networks, and strengthens relationships among regional literature programs throughout Indonesia in the pursuit of exploring, developing, and preserving Indonesia's rich and diverse culture.
Indonesia is diverse, and IMBASADI unites us
