Getting to Know HMJ Kamastawa

KAMASTAWA (Keluarga Mahasiswa Sastra Jawa) is an organization under the auspices of the Department of Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture. Etymologically, KAMASTAWA is derived from the Sanskrit language, composed of the words 'kāma,' meaning love and loyalty, and 'stawa,' meaning prayer, hope, and praise. Collectively, KAMASTAWA signifies the aspiration for the members of Keluarga Mahasiswa Sastra Jawa to always cherish, love, and hold high loyalty to the Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture program.

Officially established on May 3, 2021, at 15.41 WIB, Kamastawa was initiated by the Chairperson of Keluarga Mahasiswa Sastra Jawa for the 2021/2022 period, Na'il Yuwana Firdaus, and approved by the Advisor of Keluarga Mahasiswa Sastra Jawa, who is also a lecturer in the Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture program with a focus on philology, Zakariya Pamuji Amirullah, S.S., M.A. Before its establishment, the HMJ was known as KAMASUTRA (Keluarga Mahasiswa Sastra Jawa).

As an organization that accommodates active students of the Department of Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture, KAMASTAWA plays a vital role in shaping character and fostering a love for the Javanese language, literature, and culture. All students enrolled in the Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture program are considered members of KAMASTAWA. The organization's leadership structure changes annually, and the selection of the Chairperson is determined through a large annual meeting involving all active members.

In carrying out its role as a platform for the appreciation and expression of Indonesian literature, KAMASTAWA consists of eight divisions, namely:

  1. Core Executive Board (Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, and Treasurer)
  2. Human Resource Development Division
  3. Public Relations and Organizational Division
  4. Social Community Division
  5. Media and Information Division
  6. Academic Division
  7. Entrepreneurship and Logistics Division
  8. Interest and Talent Division (composed of the Art Sub-division and the Sports Sub-division)

These divisions provide spaces for students to develop their potential.

KAMASTAWA also organizes regular activities on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis, including "Selasa Korsa," "Kamis Pahing," "Gugur Gunung KAMASTAWA," and "Abhiseka Kramasisya." "Selasa Korsa" is a weekly event held every Tuesday, where students are required to wear Korsa attire as a form of KAMASTAWA's identity. On "Kamis Pahing," all active members wear traditional Indonesian costumes, especially Javanese traditional attire, as a means to preserve and celebrate Indonesia's cultural richness.

"Gugur Gunung KAMASTAWA" is another significant event that encompasses seminars, festivals, various competitions, Kethoprak (Javanese traditional drama), Karawitan (Javanese traditional music), and Sendratari (traditional dance performance). This event serves as a platform for KAMASTAWA to showcase its dedication to the study, preservation, and appreciation of Javanese arts, literature, and culture. Additionally, "Abhiseka Kramasisya" is a sacred event organized to welcome new students to the Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture program.
