UGM Students Perform ‘Jenaka KR’

College StudentNewsSDGSStudentStudent's Activity Friday, 11 August 2023

Six students of Archipelago Literature at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Yogyakarta who are members of the Yogyakarta Javanese Literature Studio (SSJY) staged a radio play at the DIY Language Center, Monday (19/10) evening. They presented a manuscript by Handung Kussudyarsono entitled "Isih Jembar Kalangane" from the book collection of KR's Plays of Jokes. Because the format is a radio play, the supporters of the story just sit and read the script. Six people read the dialogues of the story characters, while the other reads the narrative. To liven up the atmosphere, the stage was accompanied by gamelan. Before presenting "Isih Jembar Kalangane", UGM students first staged "Layangan Tatas" by Margareta Widhi Pratiwi who was also present that night to watch the script being staged. The dialogue and narration of this play several times made the audience laugh. The staging of the radio play is part of the DIY Language and Literature Week which takes place Monday-Saturday (19-24/10) with various activities, such as language and literature workshops as well as language and literature competitions. According to the DIY Language and Literature Week Coordinator who is also chairman of SSJY, Yohanes Adhi Satiyoko, the selection of the script from Jenaka KR was because in the 1980s Jenaka KR was close to people's hearts with its figures such as Handung Kusudyarsono, Suwariyun, and others. “I feel happy because almost all of the young people who attended this activity attended. It turns out that Javanese literature is still attached to the hearts of young people," he said. In addition to the drama script, there was also a performance of a 'short story' entitled "Sandhal Goreng" by Stella, a UGM student who is also an alumnus of the Javanese Literature Workshop at the DIY Language Center. There is also a story about a ghost, entitled "Pocongan Numpak Pit Modifikasi" by Harya Widada which was delivered in a monologue by Mas Lurah Citra Panambang (Bagus Febrianto) which ended the performance that night. At the beginning of the performance, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta students who are members of the Gandewa Studio presented an 'acapella geguritan'. Supriyanto from the Bantul Studio also read geguritan to fill in the pause after the performance of “Isih Jembar Kalangane”. (Source: KR 21/10).

Uncategorized Monday, 10 October 2022

Abhiseka Kramasisya is back as an annual activity of the Javanese Literature Study Program of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). This activity was held from Saturday to Sunday (01/10/2022 - 02/10/2022) at Wisma Gadjah Mada, Kali Urang, Gunung Kidul/Sleman, Yogyakarta. The purpose of the Abhiseka Kramasisya series is to be an inaugural event for new students and to be part of the Javanese Literature Student Family Department Student Association (HMJ Kamastawa).

A total of 51 new students from the 2022 Javanese Literature Study Program participated in Abhiseka Kramasisya 2022 with the theme "Nyawiji, Nguri-uri, and Migunani". The theme reflects the hope that after this event, Javanese Literature students can remain united in a family spirit, work together in various jobs, be useful for themselves and the environment, and can study, introduce, and preserve Indonesian culture, especially Javanese culture.

Before the Kramasisya Abhiseka series began, the 2022 students were divided into four groups at the technical meeting, namely the Kulawu, Kurantil, Julungwangi, and Marakeh groups. The names are part of the Javanese pawukon. The participants were also given both individual and group assignments.

On the first day, registration was held from 14.00 to 14.30 at Wisma Gadjah Mada. New students were then introduced to the sundries of HMJ Kamastawa and attended a talk show with two alumni of the Javanese Literature Study Program, namely R. Bima Slamet Raharja, S.S., M.A., a lecturer at the UGM Javanese Literature Study Program, and I Made Christian Wiranata Rediana, a Javanese art performer. In the talk show, the two speakers shared their experiences and images after the lecture period from the academic and non-academic sides.

In the evening, participants attended the Prodi Seminar. The seminar was held with the aim of introducing the three fields of study that will be chosen by students, namely philology, linguistics, and literature. The seminar was attended by lecturers from their respective fields of study, namely Nurmalia Habibah, S.S., M.A., as a lecturer in philology; Imam Prakoso, S.S., M.A., as a lecturer in linguistics; and Rudy Wiratama, S.I.P., M.A., as a lecturer in literature. Next, the event continued with Pati Geni (Core Stage of Art Performance), where each group performed the artwork they had created.

The second day was the highlight of the Kramasisya Abhiseka series. The event was in the form of sprinkling and inauguration in the morning (05.00–07.00 WIB). This procession marks the inauguration of class 2022 students as part of the UGM Javanese Literature Student Family. After the inauguration, the event continued with awards in the form of announcing winners from several nominations. The winners were determined based on the criteria of the activeness and enthusiasm of the participants during the event.

At 10.00 WIB, the series of Abhiseka Kramasisya 2022 was closed with the submission of certificates and group photos. Thus, it is hoped that Abhiseka Kramasisya can provide memorable experiences and valuable learning for the 2022 class of students. In addition, the inauguration of the 2022 class of Javanese Literature students is expected to maintain togetherness, care about the preservation and development of regional culture, and make a positive contribution to themselves, others, and the environment, in accordance with this year's theme, 'Nyawiji, Nguri-uri, Migunani'
