The Nusantara Manuscript Society Association (Manassa) together with the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, will hold the XIX Nusantara Manuscript International Symposium on August 7-9, 2023 in Yogyakarta. The event, which is held every two years, aims to preserve the cultural heritage of the archipelago, especially ancient manuscripts and manuscripts, so that they can bring benefits in the midst of globalization and the times.

The symposium themed “Strengthening Indonesianness Through the Study of Nusantara Manuscripts” brought together around 100 participants and 25 national and international speakers. The discussion was divided into eight panels that discussed various aspects of manuscripts, such as cross-culture, digitization, conservation, hoaxes, and its relation to the creative industry. On the last day, participants visited historical sites related to manuscripts in Yogyakarta.

This activity received support from various government institutions, such as the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo), and the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). The Minister of State Secretary, Prof. Dr. Pratikno, M. Soc., appreciated the efforts to preserve manuscripts as an ancestral heritage that contains the wisdom of the nation's life.

The Chairperson of the Committee, Dr. Arsanti Wulandari, M. Hum, stated that this symposium is an important momentum to strengthen national identity through the study of manuscripts that are rich in local wisdom values. Manassa Chairman, Dr. Munawar Holil, added that the symposium was also a gathering place and a forum for scientific research results for experts.

There were eight panel discussions held in this symposium, including: (1) Cross Cultural Phenomenon in Nusantara Manuscripts; (2) Digital Humanities and Nusantara Manuscript Studies; (3) Nature and Nusantara Manuscripts; (4) Ethnoscience for Nusantara Manuscript Studies; (5) Nusantara Manuscript Studies and Sustainable Development Issues; (6) Preservation and Conservation of Nusantara Manuscripts; (7) Reportage, Rumors, and Hoaxes in Nusantara Manuscripts; (8) Nusantara Manuscripts and Creative Industries.

Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture student of 2024 batch, Ghibran Arsha Daffa (NIM 24/543974/SA/23427) or familiarly called Ghibran, made it to the final stage in the Dimas-Diajeng contest of the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Dimas-Diajeng itself is the term for a pair of male and female teenagers who are officially appointed as DIY tourism ambassadors. For men, it is called Dimas, and for women, it is called Diajeng. The selection of Dimas-Diajeng is under the auspices of the Tourism Office. Meanwhile, the most important task of Dimas-Diajeng itself is to promote tourism and culture in their respective regions.

To start Dimas-Diajeng's journey, Ghibran went through file selection, semifinals, psychological tests, deep interviews, then entered the final stage consisting of 15 men and 15 women. After the file selection stage, participants were given the task of creating video content about promoting tourist attractions in the city of Jogja and Ghibran chose to discuss Pasar Ngasem, which turned out that no one of the other participants chose that topic.

If selected and crowned as Dimas, Ghibran must be a representative of the dynamic and cultured youth of Jogja and actively participate in tourism promotion activities.

In the process, one of the things Ghibran remembers most is when collecting files because Ghibran collected the files 7 minutes before the registration deadline. This is because Ghibran actually intended to register for Dimas-Diajeng Bantul City, but it turned out that this year it was not going to be held. Therefore, Ghibran immediately prepared himself in a short time to register for Dimas-Diajeng Jogja City.

In addition, in the process of making video content, Ghibran found things that moved and impressed him. One of them was when he met a grandmother selling traditional toys. Ghibran said that even though her merchandise was quiet, the grandmother looked happy when she was invited to interview. According to the grandmother, she had been selling toys since she was little. The grandmother also prayed for Ghibran so that his steps would be smooth in undergoing the Dimas-Diajeng contest.

After the final, the Top 3 Dimas-Diajeng will be selected to represent the city of Jogja in the election of Dimas-Diajeng Yogyakarta Province. So if Ghibran is selected in the Top 3 list, Ghibran must compete again in Dimas-Diajeng Yogyakarta province.

However, even though Ghibran will be busy with Dimas-Diajeng activities in the city of Jogja, Ghibran still wants to contribute as a student in the Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture study program at UGM, one of which is in the field of storytelling. Ghibran intends to take part in a national-level storytelling competition, or even a monologue.

Ghibran's hope for the future is that this Dimas-Diajeng program can help and educate many people, especially in the field of tourism. Let's pray that all of Ghibran's goals and aspirations will be achieved!

Mahasiswa Bahasa, Sastra, dan Budaya Jawa angkatan 2024, Ghibran Arsha Daffa (NIM 24/543974/SA/23427) atau yang akrab dipanggil Ghibran, lolos ke tahap final dalam kontes Dimas-Diajeng Kota DI Yogyakarta. Dimas-Diajeng sendiri adalah sebutan bagi sepasang remaja laki-laki dan perempuan yang resmi ditunjuk sebagai duta wisata DIY. Untuk laki-laki disebut Dimas, dan yang perempuan disebut Diajeng. Pemilihan Dimas-Diajeng dinaungi oleh Dinas Pariwisata. Sedangkan tugas terpenting Dimas-Diajeng sendiri adalah untuk mempromosikan wisata dan budaya di daerah masing-masing.

Untuk memulai perjalanan Dimas-Diajeng ini, Ghibran melalui seleksi berkas, semifinal, psikotes, deep interview, lalu masuk ke tahap final yang terdiri dari 15 putra dan 15 putri. Setelah tahap seleksi berkas peserta diberikan tugas membuat konten video tentang promosi tempat wisata di kota Jogja dan Ghibran memilih membahas Pasar Ngasem, yang ternyata tidak satu orangpun di antara peserta lain yang memilih topik tersebut.

Apabila terpilih dan dinobatkan sebagai Dimas, Ghibran harus menjadi representasi pemuda kota  jogja yang dinamis dan berbudaya serta turut aktif dalam kegiatan promosi pariwisata.

Dalam prosesnya, yang paling Ghibran ingat salah satunya adalah saat pengumpulan berkas karena Ghibran mengumpulkan berkas 7 menit sebelum tenggat waktu pendaftaran. Hal ini karena sebenarnya Ghibran berniat mendaftar Dimas-Diajeng kota Bantul, namun ternyata tahun ini tidak diadakan. Karena itu Ghibran langsung menyiapkan diri dalam waktu singkat untuk mendaftar Dimas-Diajeng kota Jogja.

Selain itu, dalam proses pembuatan konten video, Ghibran menemukan hal-hal yang membuatnya terharu dan terkesan. Salah satunya adalah ketika ia bertemu nenek penjual mainan tradisional. Ghibran mengatakan bahwa meskipun dagangannya sepi, nenek tersebut terlihat sumringah ketika diajak bercakap-cakap. Menurut penuturan nenek tersebut, ia sudah berjualan mainan sejak kecil. Nenek tersebut juga mendoakan Ghibran supaya langkahnya mulus dalam menjalani kontes Dimas-Diajeng.

Setelah final, akan dipilih Top 3 Dimas-Diajeng akan mewakili kota Jogja dalam pemilihan Dimas-Diajeng Provinsi Yogyakarta. Jadi apabila Ghibran terpilih dalam daftar Top 3 tersebut, Ghibran harus berkompetisi lagi di Dimas-Diajeng provinsi Yogyakarta.

Namun, meskipun Ghibran akan sibuk dalam kegiatan Dimas-Diajeng kota Jogja, Ghibran masih ingin memberikan kontribusi sebagai mahasiswa di program studi Bahasa, Sastra, dan Budaya Jawa UGM, salah satunya dalam bidang dongeng. Ghibran berniat untuk mengikuti lomba dongeng tingkat nasional, atau bahkan monolog.

Harapan Ghibran ke depannya adalah semoga program Dimas-Diajeng ini bisa membantu dan mengedukasi banyak orang terutama di bidang pariwisata. Kita doakan semoga semua tujuan dan cita-cita Ghibran tercapai yaa!

On March 15, 2025 Saturday, HMJ Kamastawa held a Grand Launching of its cabinet this year. Grand Launching is one of the RPO division work programs this year which has the aim to introduce divisions, heads of divisions, and work programs of the Student Association.

Accompanied by the appearance of Cokekan, at 8 am guests ranging from lecturers to other HMJ members came. The event was opened formally by singing the song Indonesia Raya, Hymn Gadjah Mada, and Mars Literature. In addition, at the opening of this event there was a Sekar Pudyastuti dance offering displayed by 2 female students.

The event was continued with remarks both from the Chairperson of HMJ Kamastawa for the 2025/2026 period, HMJ Kamastawa Trustees, and the Chairperson of the Javanese Language, Literature and Culture Study Program. Entering the core of the event, namely the symbolic release of the cabinet led by the Chair of the Study Program by tapping the microphone 3 times, followed by the video that releases the name and the logo of the cabinet.

After that, Chairman of HMJ Kamastawa explained the color philosophy and logo designed, did not forget the vision and mission of HMJ Kamastawa for the next year. After the chairman explained his vision and mission, the event continued with the introduction of divisions, heads of divisions, and work programs of each division.

HMJ Kamastawa Trustees, Mr. Dr. Rudy Wiratama S.I.P., M.A gives a little correction that in Javanese, the Grand Launching diction can be changed to kepyakan. Then in his remarks at the beginning of the event, the Chair of the Study Program also conveyed the importance of cooperation and pleasure in launching work programs in the organization.

The event was closed with documentation with all members of HMJ Kamastawa, lecturers, and invited guests. With the holding of this Grand Launching, it is hoped that later HMJ Kamastawa can establish good relations and be known by other HMJ management friends, BSO, and LEM FIB.

Pada tanggal 15 Maret 2025 hari Sabtu, HMJ KAMASTAWA menyelenggarakan Grand Launching kabinetnya tahun ini. Grand Launching adalah salah satu program kerja divisi RPO di tahun ini yang memiliki tujuan untuk mengenalkan divisi, kepala divisi, dan program kerja himpunan mahasiswa.

Diiringi penampilan cokekan, jam 8 pagi tamu mulai dari dosen sampai anggota HMJ lain berdatangan. Acara dibuka secara formal dengan menyanyikan lagu Indonesia Raya, Hymne Gadjah Mada, dan Mars Sastra. Selain itu pada pembukaan acara ini terdapat persembahan tari Sekar Pudyastuti yang ditampilkan oleh 2 orang mahasiswa putri.

Acara diteruskan dengan sambutan-sambutan baik dari ketua HMJ KAMASTAWA periode 2025/2026, pembina HMJ KAMASTAWA, serta Ketua Program Studi Bahasa, Sastra, dan Budaya Jawa. Masuk ke inti acara yaitu perilisan kabinet secara simbolis yang dipimpin oleh Ketua Program Studi dengan mengetuk mikrofon sebanyak 3 kali, dilanjutkan dengan pemutaran video rilis logo dan nama kabinet.

Setelah itu, ketua HMJ KAMASTAWA memaparkan filosofi warna dan logo yang didesain, tidak lupa visi misi HMJ KAMASTAWA selama setahun ke depan. Setelah ketua memaparkan visi misinya, acara dilanjutkan dengan pengenalan divisi, kepala divisi, dan program kerja masing-masing divisi.

Pembina HMJ KAMASTAWA, Bapak Dr. Rudy Wiratama S.I.P., M.A memberi sedikit koreksi bahwa dalam bahasa Jawa, diksi Grand Launching bisa diganti menjadi kepyakan. Lalu dalam sambutannya di awal acara, Ketua Program Studi juga menyampaikan pentingnya kerja sama dan rasa senang dalam melancarkan program kerja dalam organisasi.

Acara ditutup dengan dokumentasi bersama seluruh anggota HMJ KAMASTAWA, dosen, dan tamu undangan. Dengan diadakannya Grand Launching ini, diharapkan nantinya HMJ KAMASTAWA bisa menjalin hubungan baik dan dikenal oleh teman-teman pengurus HMJ lain, BSO, maupun LEM FIB.

The 4th International Seminar on Malay-Javanese Studies (SEMEJA) 2025 is jointly organized by the Institute of Nature and Malay Civilization (ATMA), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia with the Javanese Literature Study Program, Department of Language and Literature, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), and the Department of Museum Malaysia (JMM). SEMEJA IV includes various components designed to foster meaningful dialogue, knowledge sharing, and strategic collaboration. The main focus is on how cultural heritage can contribute to community empowerment and regional unity.

The components of SEMEJA IV include:

• Keynote address by visiting scholar – Secretary-General, Ministry of National Unity.
• Paper presentation sessions among researchers, postgraduate students, Librarians/Curators/Archivists, government/private sector employees.
• Forums featuring experts in related fields.
• Poster presentations and exhibitions focusing on practical strategies in utilizing heritage for community empowerment.
• Visits to heritage sites that play a role in community empowerment.
• Featuring source person for studies of Malay-Javanese heritage

Seminar Internasional Studi Melayu-Jawa (SEMEJA) IV 2025 diselenggarakan bersama Institut Alam dan Peradaban Melayu (ATMA), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia dengan Program Studi Sastra Jawa, Departemen Bahasa dan Sastra, Fakultas Ilmu Budaya (FIB), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), serta Departemen Museum Malaysia (JMM). SEMEJA IV mencakup berbagai komponen yang dirancang untuk mendorong dialog yang bermakna, berbagi pengetahuan, dan kolaborasi strategis. Fokus utamanya adalah bagaimana warisan budaya dapat berkontribusi pada pemberdayaan masyarakat dan persatuan daerah.

Komponen SEMEJA IV meliputi:

• Pidato utama oleh sarjana tamu – Sekretaris Jenderal, Kementerian Persatuan Nasional.
• Sesi presentasi makalah di antara para peneliti, mahasiswa pascasarjana, Pustakawan/Kurator/Petugas Arsip, pegawai pemerintah/sektor swasta.
• Forum yang menampilkan para ahli di bidang terkait.
• Presentasi dan pameran poster yang berfokus pada strategi praktis dalam memanfaatkan warisan untuk pemberdayaan masyarakat.
• Kunjungan ke lokasi warisan yang berperan dalam pemberdayaan masyarakat.
• Menampilkan narasumber kajian peninggalan Melayu-Jawa

Pada Selasa, 4 Maret 2025 lalu, akun Instagram @kratonjogja.event mengumumkan pemenang suatu sayembara. Bukan sayembara untuk memperoleh istri, melainkan Sayembara Konten #WaditraPralaga yang diadakan di dua platform yaitu Instagram dan TikTok. Di dalam pengumuman tersebut, terdapat satu mahasiswa program studi Bahasa, Sastra, dan Budaya Jawa UGM nih yang diumumkan sebagai pemenang. Mahasiswa tersebut adalah Muhammad Yasir Ramadan dengan NIM 24/542781/SA/23331.

Tema sayembara konten tersebut tentunya seputar Waditra Pralaga karena masih berkaitan dengan serangkaian penutupan dari acara pameran Paramaiswari kemarin. Menurut Bausastra, Waditra sendiri berarti musik atau tetabuhan, sedangkan pralaga berarti perang. Hal ini selaras dengan pertunjukan yang ditampilkan oleh keraton, yaitu battle antara pemain orkestra laki-laki dengan perempuan. Hal yang ingin ditunjukkan oleh keraton adalah bahwasanya perempuan memiliki potensi yang sama dengan laki-laki.

Yasir menyatakan bahwa sebenarnya tidak ada alasan khusus yang membuatnya mengikuti sayembara ini. Yasir kebetulan mendengar pengumuman ini saat menonton Waditra Pralaga di Kagungan Dalem. Saat menonton, MC mengumumkan akan ada sayembara konten TikTok dan Instagram. Isi kontennya boleh membahas apa saja, yang penting masih berhubungan dengan Waditra Pralaga. Dinyatakan bahwa salah satu kriteria pemenang akan dihitung dari total jumlah penonton di konten tersebut, dengan ketentuan menggunakan hashtag #WaditraPralaga dan dengan menandai akun media sosial Karaton Yogyakarta. Sejujurnya Yasir pun tidak menyangka bahwa ia akan diumumkan sebagai salah satu pemenang sayembara ini karena jumlah penonton kontennya tidak sebanyak konten lain. Namun saat namanya masuk dalam salah satu dari 10 pemenang, Yasir merasa senang.

Adapun kesulitan saat mempersiapkan konten tersebut menurut Yasir adalah memprediksi arah minat audiens. Dengan analisis dan bahan video yang sempat direkam oleh Yasir, ia pun memilih video berisi musik yang sekiranya banyak orang tahu. Dengan hal ini, Yasir memilih video saat para pemain membawakan salah satu soundtrack di film "Pirates of the Caribbean".

Hadiah yang didapatkan Yasir karena menjadi pemenang sayembara tersebut adalah mendapatkan kesempatan menyaksikan Pembukaan Pameran Hamong Nagari dengan penampilan Peragaan Busana Abdi Dalem diiringi Acapella oleh Yogyakarta Royal Orchestra secara gratis. Selain gratis, pemenang juga mendapatkan tempat khusus, dimana mereka mendapat tempat paling depan. Menurut Yasir, acaranya sangat berkesan karena dibuka langsung oleh Ngarsa Dalem dan dihadiri juga oleh G.K.R. Bendara, K.P.H. Natanegara, dan juga Wayah Dalem (cucu sultan). Selain itu, yang membuat pengalaman ini berkesan adalah peragaan busana Abdi Dalem, yang mana busana ini sudah jarang sekali dijumpai sekarang. Terakhir ada juga penampilan yang diiringi oleh Yogyakarta Royal Choir yang membuat acara ini menjadi lebih hidup dan memberi kesan yang megah.

On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the Instagram account @kratonjogja.event announced the winner of a competition. Not a contest to get a wife, but the #WaditraPralaga Content Competition held on two platforms, namely Instagram and TikTok. In the announcement, there was one student from the Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture study program at UGM who was announced as the winner. The student is Muhammad Yasir Ramadan with NIM 24/542781/SA/23331.

The theme of the content competition was of course around Waditra Pralaga because it was still related to a series of closings from the Paramaiswari exhibition. According to Bausastra, Waditra itself means music or percussion, while pralaga means war. This is in line with the performance presented by the palace, namely a battle between male and female orchestra players. What the palace wants to show is that women have the same potential as men.

Yasir stated that there was actually no special reason for him to join this competition. Yasir happened to hear this announcement while watching Waditra Pralaga at Kagungan Dalem. While watching, the MC announced that there would be a TikTok and Instagram content competition. The content can discuss anything, as long as it is still related to Waditra Pralaga. It was stated that one of the criteria for the winner would be calculated from the total number of viewers on the content, with the provision of using the hashtag #WaditraPralaga and by tagging the social media accounts of Karaton Yogyakarta. Honestly, Yasir did not expect that he would be announced as one of the winners of this competition because the number of viewers of his content was not as many as other content. However, when his name was included in one of the 10 winners, Yasir was happy.

According to Yasir, the difficulty in preparing the content was predicting the direction of the audience's interest. With the analysis and video material that Yasir had recorded, he chose a video containing music that many people knew. With this, Yasir chose a video when the players performed one of the soundtracks in the film "Pirates of the Caribbean".

The prize that Yasir received for winning the competition was the opportunity to watch the Opening of the Hamong Nagari Exhibition with the performance of the Abdi Dalem Fashion Show accompanied by Acapella by the Yogyakarta Royal Orchestra for free. In addition to being free, the winner also got a special place, where they got the front seat. According to Yasir, the event was very memorable because it was opened directly by Ngarsa Dalem and was also attended by G.K.R. Bendara, K.P.H. Natanegara, and also Wayah Dalem (the sultan's grandson). In addition, what made this experience memorable was the Abdi Dalem fashion show, which is very rare to find now. Finally, there was also a performance accompanied by the Yogyakarta Royal Choir which made this event more lively and gave a magnificent impression.

Haryo Untoro represented the Javanese Language, Literature, Literature and Culture Study Program in getting an extraordinary student award in the framework of the Achievement Individual Awards at the 79th Open Senate Meeting of the FIB UGM. This open senate meeting was held on March 3, 2025.

The series of open senate meetings starts from registration, opening, singing Indonesia Raya, Hymn Gadjah Mada, and Mars Sastra, then there is a UGM Rector's speech, Dr. Ova Emilia, M.Med.ed., Sp.OG (K)., Ph.D. Followed by the ceremony for submitting a comprehensive report by the Head of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, scientific speech by Dr. Gabriel Roosmargo Lono Lastoro Simatupang, MA., Ph.D., awards to outstanding individuals, choir, prayer, and closing.

According to Haryo, the selection of outstanding individuals is likely to be seen from academic and non-academic competitions, making scientific papers, and others. Here Haryo was chosen by lecturers to represent his study program, namely Javanese language, literature, and culture.

Haryo said that he was grateful and actually did not expect that he would get this award. Because of that this award was memorable for him. When asked whether Haryo was ambitious to re-achieve the same award next year, Haryo replied that he would only try to give better than in previous years, not ambition to achieve it again.
